Eastman announced continued success in being recognized in the 2023 Canopy Hot Button Ranking and Report. The company received a dark green T-shirt designation, signaling Eastman’s commitment to the protection of ancient and endangered forests through its sustainable Naia™ cellulosic fiber.

In the Canopy report, “buttons” are assigned as a measure of a brand’s sustainability performance. Eastman maintained a total score of 30 buttons for the sustainable production of Naia™.

Maintaining a dark green T-shirt designation since their 2022 audit and a light green designation since 2019, Eastman has consistently demonstrated its dedication to developing fibers that prioritize sustainable sourcing of raw material, low-impact production, safe handling of chemicals and fiber innovation. Through its portfolio of sustainable fibers, including renowned Naia™ Renew and Naia™ Renew ES, Eastman continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible with a combination of technology, vision and industry collaboration.

"As a pioneer in sustainability, we are driven by a shared purpose to innovate and create products that not only meet the highest standards of quality and performance but also contribute to a healthier planet,” said Carolina Sister Cohn, global marketing leader for Eastman’s textiles division. “We will continue to push the boundaries of innovation further, developing solutions that harmonize customers’ needs with the well-being of our environment."

In the report, Canopy recognizes and commends Eastman for its dedication to advancing next-generation fibers. The report specifically highlights Eastman's launch of Naia™ Renew ES as a notable achievement. Naia™ Renew ES incorporates 40% certified recycled* waste material and 20% U.S.-grown cotton linters, which helps offset the use of virgin wood content. This results in a remarkable 60% certified recycled content* in the fiber production process. This innovative product exemplifies Eastman's unwavering commitment to developing sustainable solutions that combat waste pollution and reduces reliance on virgin materials without compromising performance or quality.

Eastman was also recognized for its proactive approach to risk reduction in the supply chain. The company remains dedicated to ensuring responsible sourcing practices and has implemented a wood pulp sourcing policy to support sustainable forestry practices.

The CanopyStyle initiative aligns with Eastman's commitment to achieving its sustainability goals for Naia™. The company aims to lower the greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint of the current Naia™ portfolio by 40% by 2030. By proactively playing its part in creating a more sustainable textiles industry, Eastman strives to protect the planet, support the well-being of industry workers and provide sustainable choices for consumers.
