Eastman EastaPure™ electronic chemicals leveraged for semiconductor chip formulator.

The challenge

Just as electronic solvents must be clean and precise, so must the methods used to make and ship them.

A coating formulator needed a solvent for semiconductor edge bead removal and surface preparation. A polar vortex-related weather disturbance disrupted its normal supply chain, and it needed a partner to step in and meet the tight production deadline.

The formulator was also seeking specialized statistical process control to ensure the solvent it was buying met requirements for assay and metal content. Furthermore, in an effort to limit environmental contamination, it was looking for an innovative logistics solution.

The solution

Eastman’s line of EastaPure™ electronic chemicals met the formulator’s purity requirements. Steps Eastman takes during manufacturing, including the use of nanometer filtration and ion-exchange resin beds, ensure that the ultrapure solvents’ levels of metal contamination are less than one part per billion.

What won over the formulator, beyond the product itself, was how quickly and thoroughly Eastman had it ready to deliver. Eastman’s dedicated logistics team was quick to market with closed-dome loading that prevented further delay to the formulator’s downstream semiconductor chip maker.

The impact

The ultrapure EastaPure difference, combined with Eastman’s quick responsiveness, exceeded the formulator’s expectations.

Eastman representatives engaged with the formulator throughout the process and followed up afterward, showing how the company's reliability and adaptiveness make it a supplier of choice.

The result? The formulator moved all its solvent business from the incumbent supplier to Eastman.
