Eastman promotes risk-based decisions that are fully grounded in high-quality science, and we go beyond regulatory requirements to give consumers confidence in the safety of the products they use and rely on every day. Our commitment to being responsible stewards of people and the environment can be seen through our compliance and advocacy efforts, including but not limited to:
Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (LCSA): Eastman supports implementation of the LCSA amendments to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), insomuch as it is fully grounded in high-quality science and risk-based decisions. Promoting timely market entry of new chemicals that have undergone a comprehensive risk evaluation is critical to the success of the new law. Eastman supports the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as it endeavors to restore consumer, government and value chain confidence in the safe management of chemicals.
U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Inventory Notification (Active-Inactive) Rule: The TSCA inventory reset rule prioritizes chemical substances currently on the U.S. market. Eastman confirms all substances manufactured or supplied within the United States have been noted or confirmed as “active” or otherwise exempt from further notification.
Canadian Chemicals Management Plan: In addition to complying with the regulations set forth in the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999, Eastman fully supports the implementation of risk management activities established in the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP), insomuch as they are fully grounded in high-quality science and risk-based decisions. Eastman has proactively provided intended use and exposure data of our products to Environment Canada to promote risk-based chemicals management decisions.
State-specific regulations: Eastman communicates hazards pertaining to chemical substances to our customers via safety data sheets and other product-related information. Safety data sheets are prepared in compliance with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), the United Nation’s Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) and/or country-specific requirements. This allows our customers to comply with applicable state-specific regulations and reporting requirements (e.g., California Candidate Chemicals List, Massachusetts Right to Know List of Chemicals and Hazard Classifications, New Jersey Right to Know Hazardous Substance List, Pennsylvania Hazardous Substance List). In all cases, Eastman strives to ensure our customers are supplied the necessary information to determine that their use of our product is safe, lawful and technically suitable in their intended applications.
