Fungicides

Eastman produces multiple dithiocarbamate fungicides based on the active ingredients thiram and ziram that are used to protect different types of fruit and vegetables against fungal diseases. Both active ingredients have long-proven broad-spectrum activity against many diseases and are used as contact fungicides to protect the plant by shielding leaves from fungi spore attack. The active ingredients are tools in anti-resistance strategies that alternate or combine them with site-specific systemic fungicides.

We offer a variety of formulations, including suspension concentrate (SC) and water-dispersible granules (WG) or Granuflo® technology. Our portfolio also includes Banguard®, a thiram formulation for the control of black sigatoka in bananas and anthracnose in coffee and citrus.

Growth regulators

Chlormequat chloride (CCC) is the worldwide standard for growth regulation in cereals, rapeseed, ornamentals and cotton. By adjusting the natural plant hormone balance, plant height is reduced and stem thickness is increased. As a result, farmers can potentially achieve a higher yield with a lower exposure to the risk of lodging during the crop cycle in cereals. When used on cotton and ornamentals, it reduces stem elongation, resulting in more manageable plants.

Adjust™ SL is a tailored CCC formulation that offers improved performance and a wider application window. It is ideally suited to colder climates. Adjust SL increases stem strength and reduces stem height, preventing lodging and the risks and costs associated with it. In Canada, Adjust SL is sold under the brand name Manipulator™ through authorized Eastman distributor Belchim Crop Protection.

Seed treatment

Plant protection starts at the beginning — with the seed. The valuable seed and the early germs are vulnerable to soilborne diseases. Eastman thiram is used to protect plant seeds from soil fungal diseases during the early germination phase in crops like vegetables, sugar beets and maize. This is achieved by coating the seed with a special formulation of the fungicide before planting. The use of thiram and ziram on seeds also brings the extra effect of bird repellency.

We offer our technical grade products to companies making their own formulations based on our technical material. Thiram — solo or in combination with other active fungicides — can also be used for cereals, vegetables, sugar beets, maize, rapeseed, sunflowers, soybeans and more.

Soil care

Our soil care portfolio includes soil disinfection products as well as an innovative post-planting bionematicide.

Disinfecting soil with metam sodium or metam potassium* protects against soil-inhabiting plant pathogens and can also control arthropods, weeds and their seeds. It leaves no quantifiable residues and — when applied prior to seeding or planting — creates a favorable biotope for healthy crop growth in a clean field. Metam is compatible with integrated pest management (IPM) and can be used with other techniques to control soil parasites.

Cedroz™ post-planting bionematicide is an innovative, terpene-based option for controlling root-knot nematodes in fruits and vegetables. The active compounds thymol and geraniol have a synergistic mode of action that increases their efficacy in treated soil when together. It is approved for use in organic farming in the EU.

*Metam sodium and potassium are categorized in the U.S. as “Restricted Use Pesticide.”
