Tailoring formulations

 

Acid gas removal, also known as gas sweetening, involves eliminating sour components like H2S and CO2 from gas streams. The requirements for this process vary significantly based on the gas source and its intended use. While stringent specifications often apply to residual sulfur components, not all gas streams contain H2S or other sulfur species.

Amines enable efficient removal of acid gases

CO2 concentrations can range from zero to over 50%, and complete removal isn’t always necessary. Gas streams may also contain traces of organics like mercaptans or carbonyl sulfide. Amines efficiently remove acid gases while minimally absorbing inert components such as hydrocarbons, hydrogen and nitrogen.

However, the kinetics of that reaction vary depending on the type of amine and the nature of the acid gas component. By selecting the right amine(s) and optimizing plant design, the system can be tailored to specific gas compositions and applications. Eastman can assist in this process.
