What is Stabilizer?

The Eastman Stabilizer product range maintains high feed hygiene and extends feed shelf life. Combinations of organic acids are needed to stabilize feed that harbors diverse microbes, including bacteria, yeasts and molds. Stabilizer products are used to prevent total mixed ration (TMR) heating and improve the aerobic stability of ensiled grains and corn. Eastman Stabilizer helps reduce nutrient losses and maintain good palatability. Improved feed stability optimizes feed stock management and enhances overall farm operations.

Prevent TMR heating 

TMR fosters yeasts and bacteria that consume nutrients and convert feed energy into heat. TMR heating is common during warm seasons and when water is included in the recipe. Feed intake can decrease before heating is detectable. Consequently, milk production is reduced and milking frequency may be reduced in automated milking.

Eastman Stabilizer prevents growth of harmful microbes, helps maintain feed quality and extends shelf life when applied into the TMR. This supports optimal cattle performance, reduces feed sorting and waste, and prevents extra work from additional feed table cleaning or more frequent TMR mixing.

Eastman Stabilizer offers significant benefits in grain crimping, particularly with its specialty product designed to enhance the aerobic stability of crimped grains after silo opening. This propionic acid-based product with added sodium benzoate effectively combats aerobic spoiling organisms. This ensures grains remain fresh and nutrient rich. Propionic acid also provides a glucogenic energy source for ruminants.
