A material revolution

The Eastman Renew product portfolio puts our sustainability commitment into practice. Eastman Renew products use recycled* materials to reduce plastic waste and lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. More than 50 brands in applications like eyewear, cosmetics containers and phone accessories choose Eastman Renew materials to minimize their environmental footprint.

Our goals, initiatives and achievements are detailed in our 2023 sustainability report.

Our vision for a future with full circularity of plastics

To turn this vision into reality, Eastman follows six key principles:

Reduce, reuse, recycle — Promote reduction, reuse and recycling of plastic packaging.

Material circularity — Recover materials through high-yield, material-to-material recycling.

Environmental and social impact — Lower CO₂ and other emissions compared to virgin production; technologies meet or exceed regulatory requirements to improve quality of life for employees and communities.

Complementary types of recycling — Support an integrated waste ecosystem with mechanical and molecular recycling.

Economic viability — Enable the long-term success of the circular economy by making recycling options economically efficient.

Transparency — Ensure recycling technology claims are clear, transparent and certified by third parties.

Leading supplier of sustainability solutions

With our molecular recycling technologies, Eastman is a leading supplier of sustainable solutions.

Molecular recycling technology uses hard-to-recycle plastic waste as feedstock and breaks it down at the molecular level. As a result, it helps divert waste from landfills, incinerators and the environment while reducing GHG emissions.

Carbon renewal technology

Carbon renewal technology (CRT) takes a wide array of mixed plastic waste — much of which cannot be recycled with traditional mechanical recycling — and breaks it back down into its molecular building blocks, allowing the molecules to be reassembled to build new products. This allows materials to be recycled an infinite number of times — unlike mechanical recycling — with no compromise or loss of quality. CRT is used for Acetate Renew and Tenite Renew for frames.

Polyester renewal technology

Polyester renewal technology (PRT) unzips polyesters, using either glycolysis or methanolysis to convert them back to their basic monomers to create new materials. The molecules produced are indistinguishable from materials made with virgin or nonrecycled content. PRT is used for Tritan Renew frames and lenses.
