Farming in a place like Ireland presents its share of challenges, like keeping crops standing under high fertilizer regimens. Our family grows winter- and spring-sown wheat, barley, oats and rapeseed. We need products that provide reliable results each season — no matter the weather conditions. Traditionally, Irish growers have started with standard chlormequat chloride (CCC)-based products and followed with trinexapac and/or ethephon later in the season. Since early-season spring temperatures tend to be too low for standard chlormequat, the results can be disappointing.
Since it is formulated to work effectively at temperatures as low as 34°F, the main benefit we’ve seen from Eastman’s CCC-based product is reliable growth regulation and manipulation in early spring. We’ve seen how crops sprayed early will develop a better rooting system and produce a higher number of more evenly sized tillers. Crops will be noticeably stiffer and more even to walk across, which we believe will give a strong foundation for better grain yields.
We use Eastman’s Adjust™ SL plant growth regulator alone as a first-crop application. We follow up with a mix of Eastman’s product and trinexapac. We find no tank mix problems when paired with any other relevant agrochemical product.

CCC is an excellent tool for growers who want to maximize their yield potential by applying higher nitrogen rates where lodging is a concern. Growers in Canada recognize the value of CCC in their high-yielding and lodging-prone cereals’ application programs.
